Simply the best microbiology review book

This book is great. It covers everything you need to know for step 1, while leaving out all you dont' need to know. The questions are probably the best micro vignette questions out there, and helps reinforce what you learned from the book.

This book is much better than micro made ridiculously simple in terms of boards review. Its written in outline format so you can get through it much faster, and it includes an immunology section that has all you need to know for the immunology questions on the step.

The only thing I don't like is the Rapid Review format. At times the outline format should be written in complete sentences (like the high-yield series) to avoid confusing statments/facts. For me, this seemed especially true in the immunology section, which can be confusing if you have a weak immuno background.

Other than that, this is a great review book. The only review book for micro in my opinion.

Good content, but not nearly comprehensive

I am a big fan of the Rapid Review series. The Pathology version by Goljan, as far as I'm concerned, is just as essential as First Aid when it comes to reviewing for class and Step 1. However, Microbiology and Immunology are what I would consider two of the most important topics covered on Step 1 along with pathology, pharmacology, and neuroscience. This book has some good review material in it, but is far from comprehensive. Many topics are discussed extremely briefly or omitted entirely. I could only recommend this book for someone who has Microbiology and Immunology down very well and just needs a super quick refresher. To be honest, First Aid does a better job of covering this material.

*** This review is regarding the content of the book only. I do own this book, but I have not accessed the Student Consult online material. Although I have accessed it for the pathology book in this series. From that material I have deduced that it can't make that big of a difference; but I could very easily be wrong.

Review of Microbiology and Immunology

Perfect for medical microbio class. I used Micro Made easy for class, and after reading this book to review for the boards I would definately recommend it over Micro made easy. The organization is better, it's a shorter text, has an outline format, has excellent tables that while are not as detailed as the micro made easy book are a lot easier to read, and it has everything you need to know for class, which micro made easy does not.

Immuno section is a bit brief but it has all the essentials. I would also recommend reading Immunobiology by Janeway and Medical Microbiology by Murray. Both texts are outstanding and really help you appreciate the subjects.

No longer arguing for public control of social production, West now identifies the major enemy of black survival as nihilism and seeks to expand democracy within the boundaries of capitalist property relations in the United States. In criticizing West's post-Marxist tendencies to downplay deep structural antagonisms, avoid class-struggle, and abandon internationalism, Wood counters that struggles for ecological integrity, human rights, and social justice should be explicitly linked to the goal of socializing production to satisfy human needs and support universal individuation. His critique constitutes an important contribution to the development of a perspective that aims to enable U.S. workers and their allies to build a global society that is genuinely democratic.

The Finest Novel Ever.

Rash as it is to say this is the finest novel I've ever read. It is Catcher in the Rye for adults and it's depth of feeling is unsurpassed. Boll is a magnificent writer and translation in no way diminishes his gifts. The creativity, an example would be Schnier's ability to smell odors through the phone, is remarkable. I couldn't put it down either the first or the second time that I read it. Yes, it is depressing, but there is much joy in it and it gives a reader a tremendous opportunity to reflect on the realities of his or her own life. I could not recommend a book more highly.

Beautiful and Very Relevant

This is one of those rare books I come back to again and again: beautifully and unpretentiously written, and honest to the core. It is a biting critique not only of postwar German society, but of hypocrisy in general (religious, romantic, and otherwise). It made me cry and it made me laugh; I can offer a book no higher praise.

I am not normally a big believer in fate. But as it happens, I first read this book after finding it on top of an abandoned car during a rainstorm. I'd just been dumped by a longtime girlfriend under circumstances not too dissimilar to those of Hans Schnier. I won't say the book saved my life, but it made me feel a lot less alone in the world.

Fine post-war novel, but dated

Heinrich Böll’s post-war novel is positioned from the standpoint of an anti-hero, Hans Schneir, an itinerant clown who has turned his back on much of his family. Hans lives a life of despairing and self-inflicted impoverishment; he refuses to marry the person he loves, Marie, out of anti-Catholicism, and his relations with his parents have disintegrated. In part Salingeresque first-person alienation, in part trenchant social critique, Boll’s work takes us to dark territories—his moral strength is never absent. Still, one can’t help feeling that this novel moves its thoughts and characters didactically rather than immanently—institutional critique too often obtrudes the realism he aims to achieve. A genuine work, if a bit hampered by time and style.

I prefer the Disney art books to this one, which isn't quite in-depth enough to satisfy the true animation lover. For those who just want a look at the world of animation, this is good, but those who really loved the movie and want to know all about its making will be somewhat disappointed. Still, what's there is very beautiful to look at.

The artwork of this book is very inspirational.

I am a big fan of Don Bluth and Gary Goldman so I liked their introductions in this book. For example, how they initially got a call from 20th Century Fox to create this feature. I liked the artwork that was featured in The Art of Anastasia, but I feel that the book could have been more in-depth. Deneroff could have written more about the process, the actual production of the feature, and perhaps mini-biographies of the people behind the film. However, the book should be fun for casual animation fans. Yet, true animation-philes may be somewhat disappointed.

I thought I was buying a large book like the Art of Disney books, but it turns out this books has 98 pages instead of 192, which says so in the product details. So I was disappointed.
Other than that I think it's a fine book. If you're a fan of the film this is a book you should take a look at.

This volume continues the study of the eighteenth century begun in Haydn, Mozart, and the Viennese School 1740–1780 (1995) by focusing on the capital cities other than Vienna that were most important in the creation and diffusion of new music. It tells of events in Naples, where Vinci and Pergolesi went beyond their pre-1720 models to cultivate opera in a simpler, more direct manner, soon after christened the galant style. No less central was Venice, where Vivaldi perfected the concerto, on which were patterned the early symphonies and the newer kind of sonata. Dresden profited first from all these achievements and became, under Hasse's direction, the foremost center of Italian opera in Germany. Mannheim with its great orchestra did much to shape the modern symphony. A few years later, Paris became paramount, especially for its Opéra-Comique; during the 1770s the Opéra provided Gluck with a stage on which to cap his long international career. The book concludes with a description of Christian Bach in London, Paisiello in Saint Petersburg, and Boccherini in Madrid.

This long-awaited book offers a view of eighteenth-century music that is broad and innovative while remaining sensitive to the values of those times and places. One comes away from it with an understanding of the European context behind the triumphs of Haydn and Mozart.

Lavishly illustrated with music examples and reproductions, both in black-and-white and color, this master study will be of inestimable importance to scholars, cultural historians, performers, and all music lovers.

Keith Stein was already a phenomenal clarinetist when he attended the very first session of the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan. Stein was then accepted into the Chicago Symphony, and became one of its youngest members. He earned a master of music degree at the University of Michigan, and his teaching career began at Michigan State University and Interlochen, where he remained for the next 41 years until he retired. This manual probably has all you need to start playing the clarinet. It was good for me, a sax player, who was trying play clarinet along with my other instruments.
