This is an exceptional resource for psychiatry residents looking for an overview of approach to diagnosis and treatment of the most common psychiatric conditions. I wish I would have had this book early in my training to help with understanding concepts and terminology used in psychiatry. I hope the author will consider making a new version using DSM V criteria. Even though the oral boards are no longer a component of our examination, this book is truly helpful in learning psychiatry.

I find this book to fulfill all my needs for my oral exams. It places emphasis on the disorders that are more likely to be emphasized in exams. It also has a lot of pearls. It does not replace a textbook. I highly recommend this book to anyone preparing for an oral examination in psychiatry.

Hilarious and serious; useful for post college, too

Though it would initially seem aimed at applying to undergraduate schools, "On Writing the College Application Essay" is excellent for essay writing in general (including MBA applications :-).
The first half emphasizes the importance of knowing your audience. Although we're inclined to think nobel laureates will pore over our applications, the reality is they're screened by the Sarah Bleary and Henry Haggards of the world: real folks who see so many applications, that they struggle to differentiate them.
Knowing your audience is only one part of the equation. In the essay, you must convince the reader that you're YOU. Instead, many applicants portray themselves based on what they think the admissions committee wants, often to the extent of sweeping banalities. Bauld explores several of these with his sharp wit. Perhaps the funniest is Pet Death: "As I watched Buttons' life ebb away, I came to value the important things in this world."
In the second half, Bauld suggests you take a chill pill, then start keeping a notebook of any ideas an observations -- anything. Eventually you'll start to relax enough that your writing will come alive. However, before it can come alive, you must get something on paper.
You'll continuously refine and tighten your opus, and the author gives several suggestions of how to approach this, with examples of first, second and third drafts.
Finally, Bauld includes several different essays, a few from college applications, and most not. Each of these conveys a different style but illustrates the crux of the book: you gotta be you.

Excellent resource and easy to read

I've read several books on the college application process and it is clear that the essay plays a major role in determining whether or not an applicant is accepted. Mr. Bauld has written an entertaining, informative and very easy-to-read book that is also thankfully short. No long-winded, self-congratulatory filler here! It gets right to the point and is generous with excellent examples. In fact, this book is a great resource not only for those prepping to write a college application essay, but it contains great advice for writers in general. This book is well worth its reasonable price for the ideas, motivation and examples it provides. Now I need to get a clue from Mr. Bauld and keep this short and to the point. Bye.

Understand essay process & write one that shows the real you

This book gives an excellent and easy to read look at writing your college application essay. If you are just going to read a book and not do the exercises, this is a great choice - it doesn't have any exercises. Instead, the emphasis is on finding your own voice and telling your story. For example, he gives a list of the most overused, deadly topics and then shows how you can write a really good essay on one of the "forbidden" topics. He also includes a number of sample essays with comments from real college admissions officers - so you can see for yourself the difference between good, bad and mediocre.

Bit of a stretch to call it a Travel Guide

I pre-ordered this map for my trip to Tokyo thinking it will have the most current information. Luckily it arrived in time. That's about the only good thing to happen. It's a bit of a stretch to call this a "travel guide." It has only a handful of curated points of interest. It's really just a paper map. Do what I wish I did, skip the map and download the TripAdvisor app and sort by top rated activities for each district.

The book was plainly written. It included not only the normal text book instructional information on using the software but also examples that were more practical that represented using the software in real work situations. It was a good book. After using AutoCAD for 30 years and civil engineering design software for over 20 years this book did not just represent how to use the menus and drop downs, but how to do a project.

About the Author
Internationally recognized as a Bible scholar and spiritual patriarch, Derek Prince (1915–2003) was educated as a scholar of classical languages at Eton College and Cambridge University in England, and later at Hebrew University in Israel. While serving with the British army in World War II, he began to study the Bible as a philosophical work and, as a result, experienced a life–changing encounter with Jesus Christ. About the Author
CLAYTON M. CHRISTENSEN is the Kim B. Clark Professor at Harvard Business School, the author of eleven books, a five-time recipient of the McKinsey Award for Harvard Business Review's best article, and the cofounder of four companies, including the innovation consulting firm Innosight. In 2011 he was named the world's most influential business thinker in a biennial ranking conducted by Thinkers50.

TADDY HALL is a Principal with The Cambridge Group and Leader of Nielsen's Breakthrough Innovation Project.  As such, he helps senior executives create successful new products and improve innovation processes.  He also works extensively with executives in emerging markets as an advisor to the non-profit, Endeavor.

KAREN DILLON is the former editor of the Harvard Business Review and co-author of New York Times best-seller How Will You Measure Your Life and The HBR Guide to Office Politics. A graduate of Cornell University and Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, she was named by Ashoka as one of the world's most influential and inspiring women.

DAVID S. DUNCAN is a senior partner at Innosight. He's a leading thinker and advisor to senior executives on innovation strategy and growth, helping them navigate disruptive change, create sustainable growth, and transform their organizations to thrive for the long-term. He is a graduate of Duke University and earned a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University.

Great overview of jobs to be done theory. A bunch of specific examples of JTBD in action. Excellent introduction to the concept, but would highly recommend listening to a JTBD interview to "get it".

This book is a must read for anyone who leads an organization of ANY TYPE- social sector, business or otherwise

This book is a must read for anyone who leads an organization of ANY TYPE. Understanding your organization's unique value or contribution has, for a long time, felt like nebulous and elusive. This book dispels the myth and offers practical advice on how to really understand the job that people who rely on your service or product are in search of (and not what they say that want, but what their behaviors and context suggest is actually at play). The curtain is pulled back through practical, plain speak advice and cross-sector case studies from education to engineering to toy manufacturing. As a leader in education, I am thinking in completely different ways as a result of having been introduced to this theory and the methodology behind it. Imagine a world where principals and teachers had a robust understanding of what job parents were really hiring a "school" to do? Now imagine a school that could be designed to meet that job perfectly while also moving kids along into the 21st century? The application of this theory are endless. Thank you for writing this book and offering such tactical, practical advice!

This book does a great job at adding to my knowledge of the theory ...

I've been a student of jobs to be done for many years. This book does a great job at adding to my knowledge of the theory but also makes the theory very understandable to first timers. The examples from Bob Moesta are excellent as are the other examples in the book.

The explanation of theory building at the end, while short, is very helpful to those that are skeptical that science can be applied to innovation.

I read the whole book on my iPhone and Mac Kindle readers, sync'ing along the way. The best part is that all the highlighting I did is available on the Amazon website so I can copy and past all my highlights into a Google doc for easy, long term access to my highlights of key passages.
